Arthur Blythe benefit concert in New York

Alto saxophonist Arthur Blythe first made a name for himself in his native Los Angeles in pianist/composer Horace Tapscott’s band. He later made his way to New York as a member of Chico Hamilton’s quintet. We first met when I produced Chico’s Blue Note album “The Players.”

„I was struck by his sweet vibrant tone and his lyrical style. He’s a wonderful, sweet human being as well. Now he’s been struck with Parkinson Disease which effectively ends his playing career.“

There is a $15.00 admission fee at Shapeshifter Lab. All proceeds will go to Arthur Blythe to help defray the cost of his medical expenses. Blythe, 73, thanks everyone for their love and support.
